YUKI (勇气) is a VR bullet-hell roguelike game developed by ARVORE. ARVORE Studios has previously developed games such as the "Pixel Ripped" series and "The Line". Today, the studio released a new gameplay trailer and announced that "Yuki" will be released on SteamVR and Oculus Quest on July 22nd, with plans to release a PSVR version later this year.
Update (July 22, 2021): ARVORE Studio's upcoming game "Yuki" is now confirmed for release on July 22nd. While the game will also be available on SteamVR, players can pre-order the game on Quest and enjoy a 10% discount, as well as early access to the game 48 hours before its release (i.e., July 20th).
The new gameplay trailer reveals the upcoming bullet-hell challenge and showcases the upgrade system and abilities players will encounter.
"Yuki" is planned for release on PSVR later this year.
In the "Pixel Ripped" series, ARVORE combines the authentic gaming experience of classic game brands with VR style. While the studio has successfully achieved this, the tribute to classic games means that the gameplay must focus on using gaming controllers for pure gaming operations, rather than involving too much motion control.
In "Yuki", the studio leans more towards a local VR experience. It is an intriguing bullet-hell roguelike game that resembles Valve's "Xortex 26XX" mini-game from "The Lab". Unlike "Xortex 26XX", the levels in "Yuki" lead players along a linear path, culminating in boss battles. The studio released a new gameplay trailer today.
In the game, the protagonist is literally connected to the player's hand, which means players need to guide them through bullet-filled battlefields using their fingers. In fact, the game's premise is that the character is an action figure, and players hold them and make them fly in the air like imaginative children.
While "Xortex 26XX" is just a mini-game, "Yuki" seems to delve deeper - the roguelike elements mean that when players are defeated, they will be able to enhance their abilities for the next round through items and new weapons, making it more fulfilling.
Although "Yuki" deviates from the "game within a game" concept in "Pixel Ripped", the studio still states that it was inspired by classic games like "Star Fox", and promises that the game will "challenge players' spatial awareness and precise reactions, with levels full of randomly arranged enemies, obstacles, and bullets."
