Oculus Content VP Jason Rubin stated at the GDC conference that PC-based rather than mobile-based VR headsets will continue to lead innovation in the VR field, while all-in-one headsets represent the ultimate form of VR technology. Rubin believes that all-in-one headsets are crucial and will achieve mass adoption if they can improve affordability, portability, and ease of use. Oculus is working to lower prices to benefit consumers and ultimately help developers by creating a broad market. The company showcased its latest hardware, including the Oculus Go and the higher-end Santa Cruz VR headset, at the conference. The Oculus Go supports user-generated content in a social setting, while Santa Cruz has been optimized for gaming. Oculus plans to increase shipments of the Santa Cruz development kit in the coming summer. As for content, Oculus is supporting developers to create shared, replayable, and competitive games to make VR a part of everyday life. Oculus has focused on fewer large-scale games to attract consumers and grow the market, rather than investing heavily in third-party games.
