Epic Games, the developer of the Unreal Engine, plans to challenge the dominance of the Steam platform by creating its own store. The Epic Games Store will offer a more favorable revenue sharing model for developers, with a cut of only 12%, compared to the 30% charged by Steam and the Oculus Store. The new store, which may replace the existing Epic Games Launcher, will include games built on Unreal Engine 4, Unity, and other game engines. It is expected to launch soon and will initially feature Epic's own PC and Mac games, before welcoming other games to its "open platform" in 2019. Content creators, such as YouTube influencers, can also participate in the "Support-A-Creator" program, which offers a reward mechanism for inviting new players to purchase games on the Epic Games Store. Epic Games CEO, Tim Sweeney, stated that the creation of the store and its business model aims to align the interests of Epic and developers. More details about the Epic Games Store will be announced at The Game Awards on December 6th.
