Oculus Story Studio, a virtual reality (VR) film production company, was founded by Saschka Unseld, Max Planck, and Edward Saatchi before it was acquired by Facebook in 2014. Facebook invested $40 million into Oculus Story Studio to establish a film production studio for Oculus VR. The studio produced several notable VR short films, including "Lost," "Henry," and "Dear Angelica." However, in 2017, Facebook announced the closure of Oculus Story Studio and shifted its focus to funding external creators to produce experimental non-gaming VR content. Edward Saatchi, co-founder of Oculus Story Studio, expressed regret over the closure and stated that there is no evidence to indicate that people want to purchase VR films. After the closure of Oculus Story Studio, Saatchi went on to establish Fable Studio and released the VR film "Wolves in the Walls." However, Saatchi's ultimate goal is to create a virtual girlfriend character similar to the one in the movie "Blade Runner 2049." Fable Studio plans to launch its own "virtual humans" in 2021.
