Bigscreen is a social VR screen-sharing platform that allows users to host virtual movie parties and play any content that can be displayed on a PC screen, including for Quest users. The studio is now launching a paid cloud streaming service aimed at making it easier for Quest users who don't want to rely on a PC.
Bigscreen already offers a remote desktop client for Quest, allowing users to select and play PC content in the native Quest application. This is a convenient way that does not require a VR-ready PC, as almost any PC can be used, even those with Intel CPUs that support Quick Sync Video integrated graphics.
Now, the studio is introducing a so-called "Cloud Browser," a paid service that allows you to host rooms and play streaming content without the need for a PC.
Although DRM restrictions block services like Netflix and Disney+ in Bigscreen's new Cloud Browser, it does allow Quest users to stream movies from less restrictive services like Plex, Dropbox, and Vimeo.
As the name suggests, it also allows you to browse any chat-worthy content on the Internet, such as websites and web-based games.
As a paid service, the "Cloud Browser" in Bigscreen offers a free two-hour trial; a day pass is priced at $1.99 for 24-hour access, and a monthly pass is priced at $9.99 for 30-day access. You can learn more on the Bigscreen website.
