Unreal Engine 5 aims to bring unprecedented freedom, fidelity, and flexibility to the community and help game developers and creators across industries create new generations of real-time 3D content and experiences. The engine's most prominent features are Nanite, a virtualized micro polygon geometry system, and Lumen, a dynamic global illumination and reflection solution. With both Nanite and Lumen already offering initial support for VR development, more developers are showcasing the stunning effects that Unreal Engine 5 can achieve in VR. Meta announced official support for Unreal Engine 5.1, stating that v49 would be the last version to include new features for UE4, and v55 would include the final patch for UE4. Meta will no longer release any new features or general bug fixes for UE4 after the final UE4 patch is released. Meta advises against upgrading to the Unreal Engine 5 for ongoing projects and will continue to provide resources for UE4. Meta will still support critical bug fixes for UE4 until the end of 2023.
