Valve is bringing back Advanced Supersample Filtering to Meta headsets, allowing users to enable it through Steam Link and Quest Link. This feature allows rendering at a higher resolution than the headset's display panel, resulting in clearer, more detailed, and less aliased images. It has been an option in SteamVR since 2017 but was accidentally disabled for Meta headset users a few years ago. Valve has now re-enabled this feature, stating that it improves image quality and is a significant improvement for users who see poor-quality images when not using the "auto" setting. Users can switch back to the old method if they prefer, and this feature does not affect Virtual Desktop. The competition between Meta (formerly Facebook) and Valve dates back to 2014 when Meta acquired Oculus, and key Valve employees joined Meta's camp. However, after Meta abandoned PC VR and focused on VR headsets, the relationship between the two companies seems to have improved. Valve even provides first-party Steam Link functionality for Meta. The SteamVR Beta Updated - 2.2.1 patch also includes improvements such as fixing the issue of the "headset window" not appearing in the window taskbar and enabling 10-bit video encoding for compatible AMD graphics cards on Steam Link.
