Meta AR/VR专利通过非对称分束器增加Pancake透镜对比度
Pancake lenses are becoming an important method for miniaturizing VR headsets. However, specific pancake lenses may suffer from reduced contrast, which can degrade the perceived image quality and even cause ghosting. Users are sensitive to contrast, and higher contrast can lead to a better user experience. Meta has filed a patent application proposing a method to address this issue by applying an asymmetric beam splitter to compact pancake lenses. The beam splitter can transmit at least 60% of the spatial average portion of light, helping to mitigate contrast reduction and improve the overall user experience. The patent application includes illustrations of a headset with pancake lenses and describes the optical coupling between the electronic display and the lenses. The patent application suggests optimizing the spatial reflectance, transmittance, and absorption profiles of the beam splitter to achieve desired image quality, contrast levels, and ghosting suppression. The optimized pancake lenses with the beam splitter can provide increased contrast compared to lenses without the beam splitter.
