Baobab Studios, an Emmy-winning immersive storytelling studio, will collaborate with Penguin Random House to produce a new project called "The Magic Paintbrush". The story follows the life of a Chinese-American from Queens, New York and will be released in both VR and book formats. Based on the ancient Chinese folk tale "The Magic Brush", the story revolves around a poor artist who gains a special brush that can bring things to life. The adaptation, created by Baobab's Chief Content Officer Eric Darnell, focuses on a 12-year-old girl who meets her grandmother for the first time and embarks on an adventure with the magic brush. The story explores the themes of heritage and self-discovery. Penguin Random House plans to integrate the story into its children's book series "Crown Books for Young Readers", with the project set to be released in 2021. The VR version of the story will also be available. Baobab Studios' previous VR works include "Invasion!", "Rainbow Crow", and "Bonfire", collaborating with Hollywood actors such as Oprah Winfrey, Tye Sheridan, Diego Luna, and Tilda Swinton. This collaboration marks Baobab's venture into parallel print and VR projects.
