Khronos Group, which focuses on open standard APIs, is committed to developing and releasing specific specification standards for the AR/VR industry. OpenXR, aimed at standardizing the communication between VR hardware and software, has gained support from industry giants including Microsoft, Intel, AMD, NVIDIA, Epic Games, Unity, Google, Oculus, and Valve. Ultraleap, a human-computer interaction technology developer, has recently joined Khronos Group's OpenXR working group and will participate in discussions and standard development of OpenXR, working together with XR peers to improve unified compatibility standards.
Ultraleap CEO Steve Cliffe said that being able to join the large organization that includes Qualcomm, Varjo, and Microsoft is very exciting. Khronos Group is committed to helping VR and AR achieve innovation at a faster and closer pace. The OpenXR standard allows applications from different companies to work together more easily, reducing fragmentation in the complex and dynamic market. This will accelerate global market adoption and industry development. By joining the OpenXR working group, Ultraleap can further contribute its knowledge and expertise in hand tracking, haptic feedback, and spatial computing, ensuring that end users receive XR with the highest standards and performance.
OpenXR working group chair and Intel Chief XR Architect Brent Insko commented that they welcome Ultraleap joining Khronos Group and OpenXR working group. They welcome the efforts of all companies dedicated to high-quality, open standard development for mobile and desktop immersive experiences. As one of the pioneers in hand tracking and spatial computing, Ultraleap's contributions to the development of OpenXR will be invaluable.
