Valve has introduced an experimental option in the Steam VR beta version (0.1.1001+) to provide a smoother experience with Windows Mixed Reality (WMR) headsets. By enabling motion reprojection, all SteamVR games will render at half the frame rate (45fps instead of 90fps) while utilizing motion vectors generated by the GPU to infer the next frame. This should result in a stable 90fps experience with occasional artifacts, while maintaining comfort. Initially, Valve provided experimental support for NVIDIA's latest GPU generation, including GeForce GTX 1060/1070/1080+. It is understood that Valve is continuing to iterate and optimize motion reprojection support for other GPUs, and they encourage users to provide feedback. If you are not a beta user, Valve will soon make this optional feature available through the next major version update.
