Oculus has opened their server-to-server (S2S) REST API to developers, allowing them to test the Oculus Notifications feature on Gear VR. Notifications are used by Oculus to send important updates, recommended content, and notifications about friends' activities to users. Users can access these notifications through the Oculus app on their mobile devices. Oculus sees notifications as an important channel for communication with the community and wants to share this feature with developers. Developers can now send custom tag messages to users via Oculus Notifications (beta) by using the Notifications feed. Notifications can be used in various scenarios, such as congratulating users on unlocking achievements and notifying them of upcoming in-game events or new content in an app. Users can unsubscribe from app notifications, so it is recommended to send high-quality, relevant information at a reasonable pace. All notifications must comply with Oculus Content and Design Guidelines, as violations may result in the app being blocked from sending notifications. When users click on a notification in the Oculus app, the app will automatically open to provide a deeper experience. Developers can analyze the performance of their notifications, including the number of sends, impressions, clicks, click-through rates, and unsubscribes, in the Analytics section of the Developer Dashboard. For more information on creating and sending notifications, developers can refer to the Oculus Notifications documentation.
